Mike Piazza participated in a military training show
The hall of fame catcher isn't one to back down from a challenge, and his next one sees him participating in a Fox reality TV series.
Mike Piazza is whatever you think he is.
A Hall of Fame catcher and prima donna and clutch hitter and underdog and hypersensitive snoot and failed soccer team owner.
He isn't one to back down from a challenge, and his next one is curious: a participant on an upcoming Fox series, "Special Forces: World's Toughest Test."
The trailer for the show features Piazza and other participants — including snake oil salesman Dr. Drew Pinsky and "This is How We Do It" singer Montell Jordan — participating in "a version of the highly classified special forces training program, each task based on the real course."
It reminds me a little bit of "Celebrity Boot Camp," which aired for one season in 2002 (Coolio, RIP, was the winner).
The teaser video for "Special Forces" shows Piazza participating in a smoke grenade drill. Another clip that aired during Game 1 of the World Series features him walking across a crevasse on a tightrope and falling.
"I've become a little soft. Do I still have that fire?" he asks, urging us all to answer for him (probably not).
But he looks exactly the same as he did during his playing days, and if nothing else, Piazza has zero shame, so the show could be interesting, and will likely reaffirm whatever feelings you already have about him when it debuts on Jan. 4.
