Superstar pitcher Jacob deGrom has reached a five-year deal with the Rangers, the team announced Friday night.
“One of our primary goals this off-season is to strengthen our starting pitching, and we are adding one of the best,” GM Chris Young said in a statement.
The Texas Rangers tonight announced that the club has agreed to terms with free agent RHP Jacob deGrom on a five-year contract covering the 2023-27 seasons.
deGrom is one of the best. The 34-year-old has won two Cy Young awards, been named to four All-Star teams, and has had a winning record in all but one of his nine MLB seasons for the Mets.
Texas was seen as an early favorite to land deGrom, but as time passed without a signing being announced, a sense of desperation or dread started to creep in for some Rangers fans.
As a Rangers fan who’s endured a lot of losing, all I can say is …
